Reflect 31: Day 11

Nikki Kalcevic @nikkifayk from Arkansas brings us a quote and reflection today to get us thinking about Growth Mindset.

We have to admit that growth mindset is a term we’ve been hearing in education for sometime now and it’s one that’s going to stick. It comes from the research and work of Carol Dweck. We highly suggest her book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, if you haven’t had the opportunity to learn about Mindset. When I think of a growth mindset, I envision the story of Rudy Ruettiger, whatever the obstacle there’s always a chance to grow and learn. Rudy failed time and time again but looked at life as an opportunity, failure as leverage to learn and challenge as a key to making dreams happen.

Today’s quotes comes from Dr. Maxine Greene, "I am what I am not yet." What does this quote mean to you? How do you promote growth mindest with students, colleagues, and in yourself?

Here’s a Ted Talk from Carol Dweck https://www.ted.com/talks/carol_dweck_the_power_of_believing_that_you_can_improve

And September 2015, EdWeek article Carol Dweck Revisits the Growth Mindset

A growth mindset also connects well with tonight’s K12ArtChat topic: Big Ideas, consider how using big ideas in your curriculum allows for students to grow and challenge themselves?

Share your thoughts today via #Reflect31 and tonight on #K12ArtChat at 8:15 pm on Blab and 8:30 pm cst on twitter with host Jason Blair @epesART for Big Ideas
